Apple Watch Ultra - one month in

BATTERY CHECKS

While the battery life of the Ultra is better than any previous watch I’ve had, as David Smith’s video review notes, the battery life was not as exceptional as I had hoped. The Series 7 on the 11 hour hike had 37% battery left, while the Ultra had 47% left. I’m not entirely sure what I was expecting, but it was more than that.

This is borne out in my normal day to day use of the Ultra - while it is of course much much better than my worn out Series 4, I still have to charge every other day. And exercising does deplete the battery faster than I had hoped. A little disappointing.

FASHION CHECKS

I’ve only had one comment on my watch, and it was “wow, that watch looks gorgeous”. Not exactly what I had expected, but I’ll take it.

LIFE CHECKS

I got this watch as a companion to an idea of becoming more physically fit and exercising more, and to be honest, I haven’t really done it. More of a scheduling problem than anything else, but a reminder that while tech can help navigate a change, it can’t create it all on its own.

SATISFACTION CHECKS

In the words of Tim Cook’s beloved “customer sat”, I’m pretty happy with the watch. It is certainly not an “upgrade every year kind of thing”, but I do find it useful and a nice piece of kit.
